Exterior signage, surveyed and installed
Fascias, built-up letters, illuminated signs and freestanding totems for commercial premises across Hertfordshire and London. Measured on site, manufactured to the survey, and fitted by our own installers.
Which type of exterior sign do you need?
Most exterior enquiries come down to three decisions: how the sign is built, whether it lights, and how it fixes to the building. Those three answers set the cost far more than the size does.
A flat printed panel on an existing tray is the cheapest route. A fabricated tray with individually mounted built-up letters costs several times more and lasts considerably longer. Illumination adds a power supply, an isolator and a maintenance obligation. What suits you depends on the frontage, the lease and how long the sign has to survive.
Before you order
Illuminated signage and most projecting signs need advertisement consent from the local authority, and a listed building or conservation area adds a second application. In Hertfordshire that typically runs to eight weeks. We check this at survey stage and tell you before you order, not after.

Comparing the options
Printed panel on existing tray
Lowest cost, quickest turnaround, five to seven years outdoors. Suits short leases and refits where the tray is sound.
Fabricated aluminium tray
Powder coated to a RAL or matched to brand colour. Clean returns, hides fixings, ten years plus. The standard commercial specification.
Built-up letters, non illuminated
Fabricated acrylic or brushed stainless, stud fixed with a stand off. Reads as a considerable step up in quality at street level.
Built-up letters, halo illuminated
LED lit rear glow. The specification most often chosen for offices and hospitality. Needs power to the elevation and an accessible isolator.
Face lit letters or tray
Brightest option and the most visible after dark. Best for retail parks, roadside and anywhere the sign has to work at distance.
Common questions
Do I need planning permission for an exterior sign?
Illuminated signage and most projecting signs need advertisement consent from the local authority. A non illuminated fascia usually falls under deemed consent, but not in a conservation area and not on a listed building. We check the designation at survey.
How long does exterior signage last?
A fabricated aluminium tray will typically last ten years or more. A printed panel outdoors is five to seven years before colour shift becomes noticeable. Built-up letters in stainless or aluminium routinely outlast both.
What is the difference between halo and face lit?
Halo illumination places LEDs behind the letter so it washes the wall, which reads as subtle and premium. Face lit pushes light through an opal acrylic face, which is brighter and more visible at distance.
