Privacy and solar window films

Frosted, printed, tinted and solar-control films for commercial offices, meeting rooms, clinics, leisure facilities and glazed frontages. We survey the glass and specify around privacy, daylight, heat, cleaning and night-time use. Start with our commercial frosted window film guide, then use the focused guides below for your decision.

Privacy and heat, solved with film

Two common building problems have the same answer. Meeting rooms and ground floor offices that need privacy without losing daylight, and south facing glazing that turns a room unusable in summer.

Both are solved with applied film in a day, without replacing a single pane and without a landlord application in most leases.

The British Fenestration Rating Council publishes independent energy performance data for glazing, which solar films can measurably improve.

Before you order

Solar film changes the thermal behaviour of the glass, and on some sealed units that can cause thermal stress. Toughened, laminated and older sealed units all behave differently. We check the glazing type before specifying, because getting this wrong can crack a pane and invalidate a warranty.

What we need to quote

  • Photographs of the glazing and its orientation
  • Glazing type if known: single, double, toughened or laminated
  • Whether you need privacy, heat reduction or both
  • Whether privacy is needed at night as well as by day
A modern glazed meeting room with expertly fitted frosted privacy film across the lower glass panels and clear daylight above, realistic glass reflections and subtle silver solar film on exterior windows.

Film types

Frosted privacy

Full obscuration while passing daylight. The meeting room standard.

Gradient frost

Obscures at seated eye level while keeping the view above and below.

One way vision

Privacy from outside in daylight, view retained from inside. Reverses after dark.

Solar control

Reduces heat gain and glare. Available in neutral finishes rather than only mirrored.

Safety film

Holds glass together on breakage where the glazing does not meet current standards.

Common questions

Can window film crack the glass?

Solar film changes the thermal behaviour of the glass and on some sealed units can cause thermal stress. We check the glazing type before specifying, because getting it wrong can crack a pane and invalidate a warranty.

Does one way vision film work at night?

No. It gives privacy from outside in daylight while retaining the view from inside, and the effect reverses after dark. Frosted film works at all times.

Can film reduce heat and glare?

Yes. Solar control film reduces heat gain and glare and is available in neutral finishes rather than only mirrored, fitted in a day without replacing a pane.

Glare or privacy problem?

Send photographs and the orientation. We will confirm the glazing type before specifying a film.
