Door, room and desk signs

Room numbering, door identification, desk names and meeting room signage in one material family, with interchangeable inserts so a reshuffle is not a reprint. See our guide for more detail.

The signs that change most often

Door and room signage is the layer of a scheme that changes constantly. People move desks, rooms get renamed, departments reorganise. Specified as fixed panels, every change is a remanufacture; specified as a carrier with a printed insert, every change is a slide swap you can do yourselves.

Because there are usually a lot of them, consistency matters more than individual design. One carrier, one type hierarchy, one mounting height across the building.

Before you order

Where signage identifies a room rather than giving direction, accessibility guidance sets both the mounting height and the case of the lettering, and tactile or braille provision may be required. It is far cheaper to specify the whole set correctly than to replace it after an access audit.

What we need to quote

  • A room schedule or floor plan with the names to be used
  • Door construction: timber, glazed or metal
  • Whether tactile or braille provision is required
  • Whether names are likely to change

Options

Carrier and insert

Aluminium or acrylic frame with a printed slide. The right answer where names change.

Fixed panel

Direct printed or engraved acrylic. Cheaper per unit, no changes without remaking.

Tactile and braille

Raised characters and grade 1 braille where accessibility requires it.

Desk and locker

Smaller format inserts in the same family as the door signage.

Fixing

Bonded or mechanically fixed depending on the door and whether it is fire rated.

Common questions

How do you stop room signs needing replacing every time names change?

By specifying a carrier with a printed insert rather than a fixed panel. A name change then becomes a slide swap you can do yourselves.

Do door signs need braille?

Where signage identifies a room rather than giving direction, accessibility guidance may require tactile characters and grade 1 braille, and sets the mounting height and lettering case.

Numbering a building?

Send the room schedule and we will price the set as one job rather than sign by sign.
