Entrance and building identification

Building names, numbers, entrance signage and plaques that tell visitors they have arrived at the right place and which door to use. See our guide for more detail.

The signs that stop people phoning reception

Building identification is the least glamorous exterior signage and the one that generates the most complaints when it is missing. A visitor arriving at a business park needs to identify the building, find the right entrance and know whether to use the main door or the goods door, usually while driving.

It is worth treating as a set rather than a single sign: the building name at approach distance, the entrance marker at the door, and the plaque or number at reading distance.

Before you order

Identification signage is sized by the distance it is read from, not by the space available. A building name read from a car at thirty metres needs letters around 200mm tall. Sizing it to fit a convenient panel is the commonest reason a new sign still leaves visitors circling the car park.

What we need to quote

  • Where the sign is read from, and at what distance
  • Whether the building is approached by car or on foot
  • Substrate at the proposed position
  • Building name, number and any tenant names
  • Photographs of the approach and entrance
Modern commercial entrance with clean individual metal building number 24 and a coordinated wall plaque reading 'Main entrance', glazed doors, architectural limestone and brushed steel.
